WHERE DO YOU PLACE YOUR HOPE?
One of the many things that makes us unique as humans is our concept of HOPE.
Our minds are naturally filled with desires and aspirations throughout our lives. As children, our hopes are simple like for a video game, a cellphone, or just to be older. As young adults, we become more sophisticated towards a particular area of study or career. Then as mature adults, we become more specific like a life partner, home, locality, family or business ambition.
A little over a year ago, many of our HOPEs took a radical and very possibly healthier turn. Old strongholds we previously depended on like lifestyles, work, and ambitions seemed much less important. While at the same time many things we took for granted like our spouse, families, health, and even faith and hope in God seemed much more central in importance. Over the last year I have seen more people walking dogs, families riding bikes, and people exercising than I have seen ever before.
While at the same time I have seen the fear and uncertainty lingering on the faces behind the masks. People with far more questions and fear than anyone in authority have been willing to personally answer or help. So in times of fear and uncertainty where do you turn to and what do you hope? The natural tendency for too many people is to avoid and isolate from others; but whenever is isolation an answer for our HOPE?
No, this is not the time for HOPE deferred, but for HOPE aspired. Let this Christmas season be your opportunity to reach out to family, friends, and even those relationships that you have for too long left unattended. Let this Christmas be a time that not only do you regain that HOPE for those most important things in life, but to also be the giver of HOPE to someone who is desperately in need of a little more HOPE in their lives!
